Primary and Lower School Reading Specialist

About the Role

Fay School seeks a Reading Specialist to collaborate with colleagues within the Learning Services Department and the Primary School and Lower School divisions (grades K-6). This full-time, 10-month, in-person position begins August 2026 and includes coaching or leading afternoon student activities for two terms. On-campus housing may be available.

Responsibilities

• Support the mission, philosophy, and core values of Fay School and demonstrate academic excellence through knowledge of Fay’s core curriculum.
• Partner with the Director of Learning Services and teachers to identify emerging student support needs and implement recommendations from individual neuropsychological evaluations.
• Collaborate on writing and adhering to individualized learning profiles and manage appropriate school-based accommodations.
• Deliver strategy-based individual reading and academic support to students with emerging and documented learning differences.
• Provide teachers with insights into students’ learning profiles and support them with observational data about students’ learning.
• Attend grade-level team meetings and all required faculty and Learning Services Department meetings.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education with a focus on literacy or reading instruction.
• At least three years of teaching experience.
• Deep knowledge of research-based practices in reading instruction, dyslexia intervention, and literacy assessment.
• Commitment to differentiated and developmentally-aligned teaching approaches, instructional technology, cultural competence, and social-emotional growth of students.
• Engagement in and support of school-wide equity and inclusion efforts.

Pay

Annual salary ranges from $64,000 to $103,000, determined by years of teaching experience.
