Primary and Lower School Interim Learning Specialist

About the Role

This is a 10-month, in-person interim position providing consecutive coverage for two family leaves over the school year. The initial coverage runs from the start of the school year through January 26, focusing on generalized learning services support with a preference for specialization in reading or mathematics. The second coverage period spans from late January through the remainder of the school year and includes teaching one section of 5th-grade math in addition to learning services support.

This is a temporary, school-year position and is not benefit eligible. The position may be eligible for paid sick time in accordance with Massachusetts law.

Responsibilities

• Support the mission, philosophy, and core values of the School.
• Demonstrate academic excellence through a knowledge of Fay’s core curriculum.
• Partner with the Director of Learning Services and teachers to identify emerging student support needs and implement recommendations from individual neuropsychological evaluations.
• Collaborate on the writing of and adhere to individualized learning profiles and manage appropriate school-based accommodations.
• Deliver strategy-based individual reading and academic support to students.
• Provide information to teachers to understand students’ learning profiles; support teachers with observational data about students’ learning.
• Attend grade-level team meetings and all required meetings of the faculty and the Learning Services Department.
• For the second leave coverage, teach one section of 5th-grade math and work with the Math Department Chair to support student needs, conduct outreach to families, and fulfill other classroom teacher expectations.
• Coach or lead other afternoon student activities for two terms.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
• Master’s degree in education with a focus on literacy, reading, or mathematics instruction (preferred).
• Experience with differentiated and developmentally-aligned teaching approaches.
• Integration of instructional technology in teaching.
• Understanding of cultural competence and social-emotional growth of young students.
• Commitment to engaging in and supporting school-wide equity and inclusion efforts.

Pay

The annual salary is determined by years of teaching experience and ranges from $65,000 to $103,000.
