About the role
The Pricing Analyst is a key resource to provide pricing solutions to customers through the sales and commercial channels. The role uses information resources regarding customer needs, historical data, market conditions, and internal targets to prepare pricing quotes and/or internal proposals regarding pricing. The analyst also manages internal guides for operations to coordinate shipments based on desired pricing outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Negotiate pricing with carriers/procurement team by shadowing the Commercial Supervisor/Manager.
- Manage price quotes internally.
- Send quotes to customers and perform cost analysis.
- Maintain backup data for quotes to efficiently handover to operations.
- Develop relationships with carriers, the procurement team, partner vendors, and key clients.
- Communicate pricing information and any issues internally and externally to control costs.
- Ensure that customers receive notices regarding significant market issues on a regular and consistent basis.
- Follow up on outstanding quotes and provide competitive/win-loss feedback to sales and other stakeholders.
- Ensure rate filing requirements are met in accordance with company standards.
- Perform freight cost analysis.
- Read and price ocean freight rates (FCL and LCL), and general bill of lading terms.
- Read and price airfreight rates for multiple types of commodities (e.g. general cargo, DG, temperature-controlled).
- Read and price trucking quotes across multiple modes (FTL, LTL, drayage).
- Maintain pricing databases in system.
- Ensure rate filings are organized efficiently, and that extensions, reductions, GRIs, free-time/special requirements, and commodity-specific pricing are clear for internal use.
- Attend important vendor/carrier meetings and contribute to the discussion with meaningful data and input.
- Attend important client meetings and contribute to the meeting with thorough meeting minutes and action point management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent working knowledge of ocean freight, airfreight, and trucking pricing terminology and experience in negotiating rates agreements/contracts.
- Working knowledge of freight consolidation and container loading and unique supply chain needs for moving freight and 3PL/4PL services.
- Bachelor’s degree in logistics or equivalent level by experience a plus.
- Proficiency in MS Office: basic MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel.
Physical Requirements
- Safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods in an office environment, desk setting.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
