About the role
This position works with partners across the state to reduce initiation and use of tobacco and nicotine at the community level. It is ideal for someone who enjoys health education, establishing networks, and collaborative problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate Tobacco Coalition grants.
- Contribute to coordination among partners both inside the Health Department and in Vermont communities.
- Foster new relationships and connections across public health systems to strengthen tobacco and nicotine use prevention.
- Support Tobacco Control Program activities such as program planning, workplan development and monitoring, and reporting to state and federal partners.
Requirements
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Experience building and/or maintaining community relationships.
- Familiarity with community grant administration activities such as budget monitoring, deliverable review, or grant development.
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal teams and external partners.
- Experience in tobacco or substance use prevention and/or treatment, or related public health programs is a plus.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Three (3) years or more of experience in public health, human services, emergency response, community engagement, program administration, human services related fields, or health-related fields.
- OR Associate degree in public health, public administration, business administration, environmental science, emergency response, human services, social work, social sciences related fields, or health-related fields and two (2) years or more of experience in the same fields.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in the same fields and one (1) year or more of experience in the same fields.
- OR Master’s degree in the same fields.
- OR One (1) year or more of experience as Public Health Specialist I.
Environmental Factors
- Duties are performed in both standard office and field settings.
- Private means of transportation must be available for required travel.
- Stress may be anticipated in dealing with emotional situations involving program application, especially with families and in the allocation of program resources.
