About the role
The Preventative Maintenance / Major Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance of the hotel's major mechanical systems and equipment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safety, reliability, efficiency, and longevity of building systems while supporting exceptional guest experiences and minimizing operational downtime.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all hotel mechanical and building systems.
- Maintain and execute preventative maintenance programs for HVAC equipment, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, generators, electrical systems, and plumbing infrastructure.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs before failures occur.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and work orders.
- Ensure compliance with all manufacturer-recommended maintenance schedules.
- Monitor and maintain building mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, air handlers, fan coil units, pumps, motors, valves, and associated equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues and implement corrective actions.
- Aid in repairs to commercial kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, and other operational systems as needed.
- Support the maintenance and repair of: Chillers, Boilers, Cooling towers, Air handling units, Building automation systems (BAS), Emergency generators, Water treatment systems, Domestic hot water systems, Elevator support systems (where applicable).
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors during major repairs and equipment replacements.
- Service and maintain the hotel’s pool, including testing and adjusting chemical levels, cleaning filters, and completing maintenance logs to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain the building exterior and grounds, including landscaping, painting, and snow removal (if applicable), ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for guests.
- Refurbish and repair furniture, fixtures, and finishes in guest rooms and public spaces.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests, questions, and concerns to ensure a positive guest experience.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with management and other departments regarding maintenance status and needs.
- Lead and assist other maintenance team members in daily tasks and special projects.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and company policies.
Requirements
- 3+ Years in a similar role
- Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and building automation systems
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs and work in varying temperatures and conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as required
