Salary range: $67,275 - $138,945. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment (Step A1-E17 based on education and credentialed years of experience).

About the role

The Preuss School UC San Diego is seeking qualified English Language Development (ELD) teachers to join our applicant pool for anticipated openings in the 2026/2027 school year. The Preuss School at UC San Diego is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for low-income scholars who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As a department within UC San Diego Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop best practices in preparation of scholars of diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to access higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a positive, achievement-oriented, and collaborative culture of high expectations that motivates and inspires scholars to learn at college-preparatory levels.
  • Effectively execute assigned curriculum tied to specific grade-level and content standards, both in teams and individually.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans, instructional materials, and exit tickets aligned to rigorous college-ready standards.
  • Use exit tickets, unit tests, interim exams, and other assessment data to determine differentiated re-teaching needed to advance all scholars toward demonstrating mastery.
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure all scholars receive appropriate support.
  • Promote an environment that respects and values students' ideas and ways of thinking.
  • Establish, maintain, and support standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with school policies for an orderly, productive learning environment.
  • Use a variety of assessments to monitor and evaluate the learning progress of each student and to make instructional decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Current California Teaching Credential (CTC) – Single Subject, Multiple Subjects, or Educational Specialist credential, or Single Subject Credential in World Language: English Language Development, or equivalent from states participating in the NASDTEC Interstate Reciprocity Agreements with California.
  • English Learner authorization (ELA/ELAS/CLAD/BCLAD equivalent), or California Teaching Credential – Clear Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate or equivalent authorization, or equivalent from out-of-state.
  • Minimum of one year teaching as a credentialed English Language Development (ELD) teacher.
  • Minimum of one year experience teaching underserved students.
