About the role

This role works closely with plant maintenance and operations to ensure compliance for pressure vessel integrity throughout the facility, including pressure relief valve compliance and reliability assessments for piping and fixed vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a lead site technical resource for piping systems, stationary equipment, and pressure relief valve (PRV) compliance.
  • Leads efforts to ensure site practices and documentation comply with PSM Mechanical Integrity standards.
  • Works with Operations and Maintenance in planning, scheduling, execution, and documentation of PRV, stationary equipment, and piping inspections.
  • Collaborates with the site maintenance team, inspectors, and contractors to ensure repairs are performed according to specifications and properly documented.
  • Develops, reviews, and updates site maintenance and mechanical integrity procedures associated with plant pressure systems.
  • Leads troubleshooting efforts related to pressure systems equipment issues onsite and documents findings.
  • Assists the maintenance department with planning site turnarounds, shutdowns, and special projects involving pressure system components, including scheduling, job lists, parts/materials ordering, job sequencing, and work crew sizing.
  • Provides equipment reliability and performance data to technical resource networks for input into purchasing requirements, equipment performance evaluation, and vendor performance assessment.
  • Works with Operations and Maintenance to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations.
  • Participates in developing design and installation specifications, commissioning plans, and criteria for evaluating equipment and technical MRO suppliers.
  • Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria, and participates in factory and site acceptance testing to ensure adherence to functional specifications.
  • Defines, designs, develops, monitors, and refines an asset maintenance plan for pressure systems, including value-added preventive maintenance tasks and predictive/non-destructive testing methodologies.
  • Provides input on quality and quality checks for non-OEM part substitution to mitigate reliability-related risks.
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems affecting plant operations, using techniques such as statistical process control, reliability modeling, fault tree analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis (RCA), and failure reporting systems.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of maintenance/reliability engineering experience, preferably in the chemical manufacturing, refining, or oil and gas industry.
  • Solid working knowledge of piping systems design and maintenance, pressure vessel specifications and maintenance, inspection techniques, and manpower coordination.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of industrial codes and standards (API, ASME, ANSI, MSHA, State). Knowledge of Codeware inspection software is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Ability to develop and manage strong working relationships with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, inspectors, and customers.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and aptitude.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and tools for failure detection (e.g., vibration analysis, oil monitoring, thermography).
  • Facilitation and communication skills to resolve shared responsibilities and implement solutions without finger-pointing.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs up to 100 feet.
  • Must be able to carry and utilize all required personal protective equipment.

Work Environment

  • Supports plant operations in a continuous, fast-paced, high-pressure environment requiring flexibility and resilience.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • May require travel and on-site presence with affected business units.
  • High visibility role with direct interaction with executive leadership.

Post Offer/Acceptance

  • Must successfully complete required drug screening and physical examination.
  • TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required prior to offer acceptance.
  • MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) training to be completed upon hire.

Work Authorization

This role requires authorization to work in the United States.
