About the role
Safely performs the duties required to operate and control the Extrusion Press to extrude and size copper billets into shells. Operators must know the status of the entire process at all times and have decision-making responsibility on matters concerning the normal production operation of the Extrusion Press.
Responsibilities
- Organizes the Press Crew for safe start-up at the beginning of the shift and following shutdowns. Maintain visual and mental concentration at all times to ensure safe and efficient operation of the Press. 40% of time
- Safely perform checks on the following items prior to Press start-up: container heat, pump operation, heaters, valve operation, heat exchanger, nitrogen flow. 40% of time
- Utilize monitor and control panel to safely call billets and operate Press. Monitor run-out trough, apply lubrication to mandrel as needed. Clean dies and Die holders at normal frequency as needed. 10% of time
- Establish appropriate time schedules for changing Mandrel, Dies, Dummy blocks, and Clean Out Rings based on usage, wear data, and past performance. Enter production and downtime information into MES database daily. 5% of time
- Safely shut down machine at end of shift and week. Safely perform daily housekeeping duties as required, including cleanup of all machines used during the shift. 5% of time
- Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and instructions. Actively participate in programs to improve safety, quality, and process capabilities in the area and plant-wide. Report all safety concerns and incidents immediately to Supervisor or Production Manager.
- Knowledge and ability to safely perform all Press Crew duties and responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.
Decision Making
- Determine when Maintenance should be called.
- Organize Press Crew for startup.
- Determine when dies and other items should be changed or replaced.
- Inform Supervisor of quality and equipment issues that may impact tube production.
Financial Responsibility
Assist in controlling costs through good stewardship of resources, recommendations for improvement, and inventory management.
Contacts
Communicate performance and needs with supervisor, coworkers, and other production departments.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of computer to access MES database.
- Ability to safely operate needle scaler, grinder, and die grinder.
- Ability to read micrometers, calipers, and other measuring equipment.
- Basic math skills required.
Pay
$19.90 - $24.32 per hour
Schedule
1st shift, 12-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)
