Press Operator 2 - 2nd Shift

About the role

This position is responsible for setting up, adjusting, operating, and maintaining press equipment. You will perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated, such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examining plates/cylinders for imperfections, checking for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register, and more. You will make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production runs to meet and maintain quality specifications. Additional duties include cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining the press, making minor repairs, and replacing worn or broken parts as required. You will also perform periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, operate, and maintain press equipment.
• Perform make-ready tasks such as hanging plates, installing cylinders, examining plates/cylinders for imperfections, and checking image positioning.
• Prepare blankets, adjust tension, and ensure proper register.
• Make color corrections and press adjustments to meet quality specifications before and during production runs.
• Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press; perform minor repairs and replace worn or broken parts.
• Perform periodic maintenance as recommended by the manufacturer.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials, specifications, equipment, and safety requirements.
• Ability to read and understand job specifications and knowledge of press capabilities to determine appropriate press usage, settings, and materials.
• Skill in making precise control settings, adjustments, and performing routine operational maintenance of equipment.
• Knowledge of routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment.
• Understanding of the appropriate packing pressure needed to obtain proper printing pressure for the type of job being run.
• Skill in using a micrometer to mount and align printing plates correctly.

Schedule

2nd shift (Monday–Friday, approximately 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM). Qualified candidates must be able to work afternoon and evening hours.

Pay

The pay range for this role at the Iowa City location is $22.37 to $26.37 per hour, starting at $22.37 plus a $2.00 per hour premium shift differential. The actual rate of pay may vary based on education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. Total compensation may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
