About the Role
The President of Baptist Medical & Dental Mission International (BMDMI) serves under the authority of and reports directly to the Board of Trustees. The President implements the strategic goals and objectives of the organization, enables the Board of Trustees to fulfill its governance function, and provides leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s philosophy, mission, and strategy with consistent and timely progress.
Responsibilities
- Executive
- Advise and inform Board members
- Work with the Board to establish ministry vision
- Work with the Board to set long-range ministry goals and objectives
- Plan and attend Board meetings
- Enable the Board to develop to its full potential, offering leadership to recruit, train, and maintain a strong, balanced Board of Trustees
- Promote Board engagement in critical thinking, strategic planning, resource/financial development, membership development, and overall organizational wellness
- Serve as the primary staff person for the Board and the Executive, Finance, and Nominating committees
- Support Board’s evaluation of President
- Hire/terminate key employees
- Assign duties to U.S. staff
- Fundraising
- Develop contacts for new donors
- Make presentations and donation “asks” of donors
- Establish and implement strategies for approaching funders with specific “asks”
- Work with staff to produce fundraising appeal letters, brochures, and other materials
- Financial Officer
- Prepare an annual budget for review and approval by the Board
- Regularly review financial reports to ensure expenditures are within budgeted amounts; prepare budget revisions as needed
- Set employee salaries
- Missionary Development and Support
- Work with the administrative staff to develop plans for recruiting new missionaries
- Work with the administrative staff to interview potential missionary candidates
- Counsel missionaries, assist in conflict management as needed
- Community and Public Relations
- Work with the administrative staff to plan and attend BMDMI conferences
- Represent BMDMI in churches/conferences
- Represent BMDMI in community events
- Attend key programs in Central America and Nepal as needed
- Short-Term Team Ministry
- Work with the administrative and team staff to develop and implement plans for recruiting new short-term mission teams
- Work with the administrative and team staff to develop and implement plans for recruiting new team members
- Serve as a Team Captain
Qualifications
- Manifests evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, knowledge of the scriptures, and a theological perspective that undergirds Christian missions
- Active member of a local, Baptist church
- Strong management and supervisory skills and experience
- Demonstrates leadership ability in strategizing and coalition building
- Demonstrates effectiveness and lead experience in fund development
- Excellent communication skills
- Willingness to travel in the United States and Central America
Terms of Employment
Salaried, professional management position; work hours flexible, depending on the needs of the job. All BMDMI employees are employed on an "at-will" basis. Employment at BMDMI is for an indefinite period of time and is terminable at any time, with or without cause, by either the employee or BMDMI.
