About the role

The Transportation Superintendent oversees the City of Prescott’s street maintenance, traffic operations, fleet services, and transit divisions. This position ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation infrastructure and services for residents and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, bridges, traffic signals, and related infrastructure.
  • Manage the city’s fleet of vehicles and equipment, including procurement, maintenance, and replacement.
  • Oversee transit operations, including fixed-route and paratransit services, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop and administer departmental budgets, grants, and capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with other city departments, regional agencies, contractors, and the public to address transportation needs and concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and ADA requirements.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for the City Manager and City Council.
  • Supervise and evaluate department staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, public works, or a related field, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Arizona or ability to obtain within one year of hire is preferred.
  • Experience with federal and state transportation funding programs, including grants management.
  • Knowledge of transportation planning, traffic engineering, and fleet management principles.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work outside normal business hours as needed.

Pay

$95,000 – $115,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
