About the role
The Preschool Teacher provides guidance for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children and promotes a positive environment for children, parents and staff.
Responsibilities
- Plans and implements program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
- Captures and implements activities that fit the children’s developmental needs.
- Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
- Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families. May conduct conferences.
- Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.
- Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
- Assists in recruitment of members for the Parent Advisory Group.
Requirements
- 18 years of age or older.
- Current state approved first-aid certification.
- Current state approved community CPR certification.
- TB test by the Manitou method.
- Experience in working with children the same age as those to be supervised.
Qualifications
- A permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing service in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program.
- A current credential issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing authorizing teaching service in elementary school or a single subject credential in home economics, and 12 units in ECE and/or CD or two years’ experience in early childhood education or a child care and development program.
