About the Role

CPLC's Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs are committed to giving every child, regardless of circumstances at birth, an opportunity to succeed in school and life. The Preschool Teacher promotes school readiness by preparing children and families for school and life success. This role provides high-quality, developmentally appropriate care and education for children aged 3-5 in a center-based classroom within the CPLC ECD Program. The teacher works as part of an interdisciplinary team to support children in all areas of development while providing education, disabilities, health, and social service support to families.

This position adheres to all state and federal regulations for the care and education of young children, including the revised Head Start Program Performance Standards (issued 9/1/2016), Head Start Act (12/7/2007), Texas Child Care Licensing (for centers in Texas), New Mexico State Child Care Regulations (for centers in New Mexico), Office of Head Start Initiatives, and ECD Content Area Plans and Procedures. Active supervision of children by sight and sound in all environments is required, along with maintaining health and safety regulations to create an optimum learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide developmentally appropriate care and education for children aged 3-5 in a center-based classroom.
• Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support children’s development in all areas.
• Facilitate health and safety practices to ensure children’s well-being in all environments (school bus, outdoor, indoor).
• Actively supervise children by sight and sound at all times.
• Abide by all applicable state and federal regulations, including Head Start Program Performance Standards and child care licensing requirements.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education (EDE), or coursework equivalent to a major relating to Child Development or Early Childhood Education in a related field.
• Education obtained outside the U.S. must be evaluated by an accredited organization to determine equivalency to U.S. standards.
• Minimum of 6 months of experience working with preschool children (highly preferred).
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred.
• Basic keyboard skills and proficiency in using computers, software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe), and web-based systems.
