About the role
Ohana Child Development Center is seeking a Preschool Guide to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree preferred, 3 years of experience in early childhood education, and knowledge of Montessori/RIE caregiving techniques and Positive Discipline. Bonus points for a Master's degree in related fields, Montessori certification, and 5+ years of Montessori programming experience.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates with a lead guide to plan, implement, and manage the classroom using Montessori principles.
- Manages physical care of children.
- Ensures the daily care of every child by following all school/classroom procedures and standards as well as all licensing guidelines.
- Ensures visual supervision and child safety at all times.
- Observes and documents observations regularly for each child.
- Prepares and maintains the environment based on observations of the needs of the children.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
- Models appropriate pro social behavior and redirects children when appropriate using positive discipline strategies.
- Formulates relationships with families, children, and co-teachers that are respectful of individual differences and culture, family styles and cultural/socioeconomic diversity.
- Mets regularly with co-teachers to discuss observations, environmental design, curriculum planning, and challenges to ensure all guides are coordinating and collaborating.
- Provides developmental reports to parents and conducts parent conferences three times per year.
- Communicates important information to co-teachers regarding aspects of the children and classroom.
- Maintains a professional self-image and projects the values of Ohana and Bandwidth at all times.
- Maintains required training hours and certifications according to licensing.
- Be open to applying new teaching, learning strategies as directed by the Director and the Ohana Board.
- Lead level meetings regularly.
- Attends faculty meetings regularly.
Requirements
- Works in a normal Child Development Center environment.
- Able to lift, move, or hold children with weight up to 60 pounds.
- Able to observe children from various distances.
- Able to lift children from various heights.
- Able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- Able to navigate uneven outdoor terrain for limited periods of time in various mild to moderate weather conditions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3 years working in early childhood education.
- Knowledge of Montessori/RIE caregiving techniques and Positive Discipline.
- Skilled in observation techniques and documentation.
- Communication skills (oral and written).
Bonus Points
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in early childhood education or child development.
- MACTE Accredited Montessori certification.
- 5+ years working in Montessori programming.
- Montessori pedagogy and Positive Discipline knowledge.
- Fluency in languages other than English.
- Experience working with neurodivergent children in a group setting.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
