Preschool General Education Teacher- 10 Month- Brooklyn

About the Role

We are currently looking for a General Education Teacher at our William O'Connor-Midwood School for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a 10-month position running from September to June, and it includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

At ADAPT Community Network, we provide a multitude of services to people with developmental disabilities. This role involves conducting educational classes for special education preschool or Early Intervention, acting as a team leader for each student’s team, and supervising Teacher Assistants.

Responsibilities

• Plans and conducts classes/activities adapted to the needs of students.
• Assesses and prepares IFSP/IEP’s, implementing and evaluating short and long-term goals and objectives.
• Participates in activities pertaining to student transitioning, initial evaluations, and intake processes.
• Provides educational assessment and evaluation on students annually in all educational domains.
• Prepares and adapts individual and group lesson plans, materials, equipment, and environment modifications.
• Maintains records of daily attendance and progress, writing periodic progress reports, annual reports, and other requested data.
• Ensures services are rendered with utmost regard for students' personal dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Participates in activities outside the classroom (e.g., trips, pool, gym, libraries, lab).
• Serves and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, annual reviews, parent meetings, and in-services.
• Attends regular staff meetings, student reviews, district meetings, and conferences.
• Supervises, trains, evaluates, and manages Teacher Assistants, including hiring, disciplining, and terminating as needed.
• Obtains approval, requisitions, and purchases class equipment and materials.
• Assists with transporting students between buses and the building as needed.
• Implements universal precautions at all times.
• Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning students as needed.
• Attends supervisory and management meetings.
• Assists students with outer clothing on arrival and departure as needed.
• Substitutes in another classroom as requested.
• Participates in in-service training programs as requested.
• Confers with directors or other agency personnel regarding problems, questions, and suggestions for programming or student handling.
• Initiates precautions to ensure a hazard-free work environment.
• Attends parent meetings and confers with parents on program content and student progress.
• Assists with curriculum development.
• Provides supervision and training to student teachers.
• Keeps abreast of changes in the field.
• Performs other related duties as requested.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Good organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and appropriate software.
• Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, children, parents, and outside contacts.
• Must maintain confidentiality of student and staff records.
• Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures.
• Must be available Monday-Friday, 8am-3pm.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
• New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth-2nd Grade).
• Meet all additional NY State Certification requirements.

OR

• Bachelor’s Degree and currently obtaining a Master’s Degree and/or Early Childhood Education Certification (qualifies for a Study Plan).

Pay

$67,705.57 - $79,567.50 annually, plus a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
