About the role

The Teacher Site Floater supports the daily operations of the Preschool program under the direction of the Site Manager. Key responsibilities include acting as a substitute teacher, maintaining the kitchen, keeping facilities clean, and ensuring children are well-fed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs duties according to NAEYC, CACFP, USDA, Tennessee Day Care Licensing, and Porter-Leath standards.
  • Provides classroom coverage for Teachers and Assistant Teachers when needed.
  • Assumes primary caregiving responsibilities for one group of children, including those with special needs.
  • Acts as a role model and mentor to both clients and staff.
  • Communicates programmatic issues to Supervisor and Manager promptly and concisely.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff to create a positive, enriching, and safe environment.
  • Affords appropriate health, nutrition, disability, education, and family support services to children and families.
  • Implements daily education procedures, ensures children are engaged in activities suited to their needs, and provides ample activity options.
  • Maintains communication with nutrition, health/disability/nutrition, and education staff to address special diet needs.
  • Assists in meal preparation and serving, ensuring compliance with USDA recommendations and Porter-Leath requirements.
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance, meal counts, etc., for report generation.
  • Conducts regular home visits and parent conferences.
  • Contributes to ongoing child evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with physical demands, such as standing, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, lifting up to 25 pounds, and maintaining a valid driver's license.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) preferred.
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
  • Previous Head Start experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience with infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED required.
