Position Summary

A teaching staff member shall instruct students in their charge in accordance with the special education curriculum and course of study adopted by the Board of Education. The role involves ensuring student learning through authentic challenges and assessments.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • NJ Preschool through Grade 3 Certification
  • Teacher of the Handicapped / Teacher of Students with Disabilities certificate

Essential Duties

  • Ensures adherence to school, administrative, board, and state rules, regulations, and policies
  • Communicates with parents and school personnel regarding pupil progress
  • Attends parent conferences in accordance with school policy
  • Maintains appropriate records and reports
  • Participates in curriculum and developmental programs
  • Maintains an orderly and productive school and classroom environment
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Attends school-related night activities as needed
  • Identifies pupil needs and collaborates with other professionals in addressing learning, social, and attitude issues
  • Groups children for instructional purposes or activities to enhance performance and meet individual needs
  • Assumes responsibility for any other duties or responsibilities assigned by the Principal/Director of Special Services

Specific Responsibilities

  • Participates in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Collaborates with Child Study Team members in implementing and evaluating pupil performance as outlined on the IEP
  • Utilizes classroom/workshop methodologies to prepare students for appropriate communication, academic, and perceptual-motor skills for pre-vocational performance

Position Objective

To ensure the Preschool Special Education Program is well-developed, aligned with New Jersey Core Content Standards and district objectives, clearly articulated, and consistently carried out.

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the New Jersey Administrative Code and Board of Education policy.

Additional Responsibilities

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal or superintendent may assign or delegate.

Evaluation

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on supervision and evaluation.

Computer Skills

Proficient in computer applications pertinent to support the position.
