About This Role Ascension Episcopal Day School is currently accepting applications for a part-time Preschool 2's Assistant Teacher. Work hours are approximately 9:30 to 6:00 with the possibility for additional hours. Ascension Day School serves pre-school children ages 6 weeks thru 5 years. Our program is designed to cultivate the cognitive, social, physical, creative, spiritual, and emotional development of each child. The Assistant Teacher will be part of a three person team responsible for creating a nurturing, collaborative, and supportive learning community for fourteen 2-year-old children. Pay is $15 per hour. What You'll Do RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Assist in the creation and maintenance of a safe and stimulating classroom environment.Follow staff health procedures including changing diapers and cleaning noses, washing children's and your own hands, taking out trash, and cleaning/sterilizing the classroom and toys.Assist in the creation and implementation of curriculum conducive to the cognitive, physical, social, creative, spiritual, and emotional development of young children.Actively engage students in activities, explorations, and opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, movement, decision-making, and problem-solving.Model developmentally appropriate behavior management.Assist in the maintenance of attendance and childcare records for the classroom.Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis.Participate in staff development opportunities and maintain knowledge of current child development practices.Consistently maintain open and friendly relationships with each child's family. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.Under the coordination of the Lead Teacher, act as a team player for your classroom, including modeling best teaching practices and professional behavior. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate should have the following qualifications: experience working with young children, especially in an early education center; some college-level courses in early education or a related field (preferred); early education training including knowledge of early education teaching methods and child development theory; effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
