Preschool Aftercare Teacher

Schedule: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

About the role

Garrison Forest Preschool seeks a creative and dynamic individual for an Associate Teacher position starting in August 2026. This role supports academic programs and prepares students to thrive in a complex, changing world, inspiring them to be authentic, brave, compassionate, curious, and spirited.

Responsibilities

• Support and promote the mission and philosophy of Garrison Forest School.
• Serve as a role model by maintaining an environment that fosters respect among students and colleagues.
• Project a professional demeanor in conduct, speech, and dress.
• Establish clear and appropriate academic goals and demonstrate effective planning skills.
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of child development.
• Participate in professional development.
• Provide programs that actively engage students in making connections, solving problems, and thinking independently.
• Communicate with students and families in an effective and developmentally appropriate manner.
• Create a secure and stimulating environment where students grow in autonomy and collaboration.
• Maintain a positive atmosphere that teaches and models respect, kindness, and honesty.
• Develop and sustain relationships with parents to support each student’s well-being and autonomy.
• Promote anti-bias approaches through respectful and affirming learning environments.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and orderly learning environment, including equipment, materials, and classroom organization.
• Possess strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
• Assume other related duties as requested by administrators.
• Work alongside the administrative team to build meaningful learning experiences for students.

Preschool-Specific Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate with parents and guardians, recording attendance, notes, and photos daily on the Procare app.
• Perform duties such as recess monitoring, carpool, and other childcare needs as assigned.
• Remain in compliance with all Office of Child Care regulations.
• Support students and families with a team approach for academic, social, toileting, hygiene, or other developmental needs.
• Prioritize the health and welfare of preschool students.

Requirements

• B.A. degree in Early Childhood Education desirable.
• Completion of all COMAR Staff Requirements for a Lead Preschool Teacher.
• Prior experience working with preschool-aged children in a school setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse community and commitment to diversity and multicultural educational practices.
