Prep Cook - Line Server H-77

This is a part-time, non-exempt, hourly position limited to 1,500 hours in a 365-day period and does not entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits. The selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-day New Employee Orientation Program.

About the Role

In support of Christopher Newport University’s mission, CNU Dining Services provides students with high-quality food and dining experiences. This role contributes to creating an inclusive environment, fostering intellectual inquiry, and delivering memorable dining experiences that enhance the cultural life of the CNU community.

The purpose of this position is to perform production duties such as baking, roasting, and frying, as well as assist customers with meal choices and serve on a serving line by preparing customer plates.

Responsibilities

• Read and comprehend recipes, lists, and production needs
• Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
• Adhere to safety and sanitation procedures
• Stand for prolonged periods in extreme temperatures and congested work areas
• Wear protective footwear as required
• Work a flexible schedule, including nights (until 10 p.m.), weekends, and some holidays

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education/experience
• Previous experience in the food service industry
• Experience reading and interpreting recipes
• Experience managing production requirements
• Knowledge of safety protocols and sanitation practices
• Experience operating commercial kitchen equipment

Pay

$15.53 to $19.41 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
