Prep Cook - Jacob K. Javits Convention Center
Job Summary
The Prep Cook assists Cooks in the preparation and service of menu items and performs a number of kitchen activities including cold food preparation and storing food and non-food supplies.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Service
- Assists in the preparation of various foods in assigned work stations including but not limited to fresh produce, proteins and other pantry ingredients.
- Stores and properly handles raw and prepared foods.
- Ensures proper portion, arrangement, and food garnish.
- Cleans and sanitizes production equipment, work surfaces and kitchen station based on assigned tasks.
- Prepares and handles food in a manner consistent with local health department guidelines and/or Levy standards.
- Delivers exceptional service.
- Acts with a sense of urgency with respect to guest and event needs.
- Controls
- Maintains a safe, clean and sanitary workstation.
- Employs good safety and sanitation practices in order to prevent hazards including but not limited to, slips, trips, falls and urns, and reports injuries, unsafe conditions or equipment malfunctions to management. Contacts Public Safety in the event of emergencies.
- Adheres to company guidelines, policies, and property rules.
- Follows responsible alcohol service policies.
- Thoroughly completes all responsibilities and assignments.

- Displays a positive attitude.
Qualifications
- Possess safe and efficient knife skills.
- Walks and stands throughout entire shift.
- Lifts and transports food product and other eqipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Pushes and pulls carts, racks, and products weighing up to 250 lbs.
- Reads, speaks, writes and comprehends English.
