Position Summary
The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and performing basic cooking tasks according to Hive Bakery & Cafe's recipes, procedures, and quality standards. This role supports the kitchen team by ensuring all prep work is completed efficiently and accurately to meet daily production needs.
Responsibilities
- Food Preparation: Prepare ingredients according to recipes, procedures, and prep lists. Wash, chop, measure, and organize ingredients to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Label and date all prepped items and ensure freshness. Maintain assigned par levels of prepped ingredients. Support the Line Cooks and Bakers by ensuring all prep is ready for service and production.
- Operational Duties: Maintain, stock, restock, clean, and organize prep station and storage areas. Complete opening, side, and closing duties in a timely manner following established standard operating procedures. Safely operate kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, ovens, and food processors. Alert management of any equipment malfunctions or shortages.
- Training and Knowledge: Complete and pass all required training—both initial and ongoing. Learn and follow Hive Bakery & Cafe's recipes, portion standards, and safety protocols. Stay informed on menu updates and production changes.
- Team Support & Communication: Assist kitchen team during peak hours and when additional support is needed. Communicate any prep needs, shortages, or concerns to management promptly. Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude with fellow team members.
- Sanitation and Safety: Follow all sanitation and food safety standards. Practice proper handling, storage, receiving, labeling, and rotation procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols at all times.
- Communication and Flexibility: Respond appropriately to tasks assigned by the management team. Maintain regular, consistent attendance and punctuality. Follow all company policies as outlined in the company handbook. Be flexible with scheduling (must be available to work weekends and holidays).
- Accountabilities: Complete prep work accurately and efficiently according to standards. Maintain a clean uniform and professional appearance. Assist in keeping the kitchen clean, organized, and safe. Demonstrate teamwork, effective communication, and a positive attitude. Ensure all cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards are consistently met.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Skills: Able to read and understand English and have basic math and computer skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Eagerness to learn and ability to learn quickly. Professional attire and appearance in keeping with Hive Bakery & Cafe standards.
- Physical Requirements: Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (bags/boxes) and carry short distances. Able to stand and walk during 8-10 hour shifts. Able to work closely with other staff at a fast pace, under pressure, maintaining quality standards and often in confined areas. Able to reach (up to 6 feet overhead), bend, stoop, and wipe. Able to work at approximately 36-inch table/stove and reach in approximately 36 inches.
- Safety and Flexibility: Understand hazards such as cuts, burns, slips, trips, and falls. Able to complete additional tasks assigned by management. Able to meet all standards for safe food handling.
Schedule
Monday through Saturday, 4:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Occasional weekend availability may be required based on business needs. This is a seasonal position: Sept/October through Feb/March. Possibility for longterm employment may be assessed post-season.
Pay
$20.00 per hour
