PreK Teaching Assistant

About the role

Aid certified staff members in the classroom to support students' learning and instructional goals. Assist in various administrative tasks and non-instructional duties to free up time for professional staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
• Work with professional staff to administer and correct classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
• Prepare and strategize classroom materials and activities to meet individual student needs.
• Document student learning and performance through record-keeping procedures.
• Manage classroom behavior to ensure a safe and orderly environment and keep students on task.
• Supervise non-instructional areas such as lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, and study halls.
• Accompany students on field trips to assist with supervision.
• Construct, copy, and distribute educational materials as needed.
• Support parent involvement in student education and assist with activities of daily living for students with special needs.
• Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) processes and serve as a resource for the student personnel evaluation team.
• Train other paraprofessionals as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Equivalent to 48 hours of college credit or passing the ParaPro test for highly qualified applicants.

• Ability to follow instructions and use personal computers and software applications.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to establish supportive and compassionate relationships with students, especially those with special needs.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Skills

Pay

$16.76 per hour for Grade 5, $17.74 per hour for Grade 8 (including Parapro, CDA, and 48 college credits), with an additional $1 per hour from referendum funds.

Schedule

Less than 12 months, 5.9 hours per day.
