About the Role

St. Ambrose Catholic School seeks a responsible, energetic, and nurturing individual with teaching experience. The PK 3 teacher will facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing Archdiocesan-approved curriculum, documenting progress, addressing individual educational needs, and creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment. The role reports to the School Principal and Dean of Academics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer school curriculum consistent with school goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; translate plans into learning experiences.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with special needs.
  • Instruct students in principles of responsible digital citizenship and other subjects as specified by applicable laws and school regulations.
  • Acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, or research.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student activities, achievement, and attendance.
  • Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with staff to evaluate and assess curriculum; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies; maintain inventory records.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with testing programs.
  • Maintain record-keeping of student learning and performance.
  • Oversee students during non-instructional duties such as lunch and carpool.
  • Assist with morning, lunch, or afternoon duty as assigned.

Requirements

  • Mature, responsible, energetic, and nurturing with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Texas State Teaching Certification.
  • Pass a criminal background check clearance.
  • Trained and verified in Safe Haven child abuse awareness.
  • Committed to the philosophy of Catholic school and value-oriented education.
  • Current Catechist Certificate or working toward one.
  • Able to handle both face-to-face and remote online teaching.

Skills

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents in person, electronically, and in writing.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Physical Demands

  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Walk long distances across campus and within the classroom.
  • Use hands to handle or manipulate teaching tools (technology, textbooks, student work, chalkboard/whiteboard).
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb steps.
  • Sit for periods of time (chairs and floor).
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Talk, hear, taste, and smell.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

  • State Certification in the appropriate grade level preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline.
  • Prior teaching experience will be considered.
