About the role
Turner & Townsend are seeking a Preconstruction Architect / Designer to lead the design and planning of electric vehicle (EV) operations facilities.
Responsibilities
- Create site layouts, feasibility studies, and early-stage design concepts for new and existing EV operations facilities.
- Produce detailed drawings and documentation for facility components including service areas, support spaces, and site infrastructure.
- Design and coordinate EV charging layouts, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards and electrical requirements.
- Work closely with internal teams (engineering, operations, real estate, facilities) and external partners to align design with operational needs.
- Manage permitting processes and ensure designs meet applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and environmental standards.
- Contribute to the creation of design standards and playbooks to ensure consistency across projects and streamline future development.
- Prepare construction documentation and review shop drawings to ensure design intent is maintained throughout execution.
- Support long-term infrastructure planning and real estate strategy through design expertise and technical guidance.
- Participate in site selection and evaluation, providing architectural input during due diligence and planning phases.
- Conduct design reviews and site visits to ensure construction aligns with approved plans and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
- Licensed Architect with 10+ years of experience in architectural design and pre-construction, ideally in transportation, industrial, or technical facilities.
- Experience designing EV charging infrastructure and coordinating with electrical systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other architectural design tools.
- Strong understanding of building codes (ADA, NEC) and permitting processes.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities across diverse teams.
- Creative problem-solving and strategic thinking.
- Able to manage multiple concurrent projects and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Experience developing design standards or playbooks for repeatable infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with sustainability principles and energy-efficient design strategies.
