Job Description

The Precast Concrete Inspector is responsible for ensuring precast concrete components fabrication meets all applicable LADOTD specifications, approved shop drawings, and industry standards. This position involves performing inspections of fabrication process and monitoring operations, testing materials, reviewing plans, keeping daily diaries, resolving daily constructability issues, and troubleshooting problems to mitigate delays to project's progress. The role also entails effectively communicating and coordinating work with contractor, coworkers, and supervisors, testing concrete on-site, reviewing fabrication details for constructability and installation compatibility, reviewing material certifications, fabrication quality control records, fabricator’s inspection and testing records, fabrication quality control records and repair records, reviewing quality documents prior to delivery, assisting in ensuring that quality requirements are implemented by subcontractors, compiling comprehensive reports detailing quality performance, highlighting trends, and suggesting corrective actions and lessons learned, collaborating in the digitalization of quality records, monitoring, verifying, and generating daily reports on the progress and performance of contractor activities, performing off-site quality inspections at the Owners/suppliers/manufacturer’s yard/shop as needed, reporting quality issues associated with the construction and tracking deficiencies/non-conformances, and performing other duties as assigned.

Required Skills And Competencies

  • PCI Level III certification with 3+ years of related quality experience
  • Experience working with LADOTD Design-Build projects and/or the construction industry (preferred)
  • A valid and current driver's license (required)
  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of the ISO 9001 standard on Quality Management System (required)
  • Experience in implementing quality management and quality control digital tools (valued)
  • Effective communication in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, vendors, etc.
  • Proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change
  • Ability to work as a team member and exert initiative to work independently to reach a goal
  • Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player and collaborator
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime and work additional and/or different hours, including but not limited to nights, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed, to best serve the business operations
  • Ability to perform on-site inspections in outdoor areas
