Job Summary
The Pre/Post-Op RN position provides comprehensive nursing care to patients in both the preoperative and postoperative phases of care, ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate patient experiences throughout the surgical process. The Pre/Post-Op RN Float plays a vital role in preparing patients for surgery, monitoring recovery, and supporting optimal patient outcomes while collaborating closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate preoperative and postoperative processes, treatments, and recovery expectations with patients and their significant others, fostering cooperation, understanding, and trust while addressing concerns.
- Provide patient education tailored to individual needs, in accordance with physician instructions and facility policies, to ensure optimal preparation for surgery and successful recovery after discharge.
- Deliver direct patient care in accordance with physician orders, including performing comprehensive assessments of patient responses to treatments, medications, pain management interventions, and adverse reactions.
- Maintain patient privacy during all interactions, adhering to HIPAA standards to protect the privacy and security of PHI and ePHI.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from an accredited School of Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current RN license from the State Board of Nursing.
- BLS required; ACLS/PALS preferred and required within 60 days of hire.
- Previous experience in pre-op, PACU, ambulatory surgery, critical care, or perioperative nursing preferred.
- Advanced knowledge in critical thinking and applied nursing practice.
- Strong assessment, communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques, surgical instrumentation, specialty surgical equipment, and postoperative recovery standards.
