Pre-Law Advising Coordinator
About the Role
The Pre-Law Advising Coordinator supports the Pre-Law Advisor in organizing and coordinating opportunities for pre-law students in career exploration and preparation for law school applications. The coordinator collaborates with the Pre-Law Advisor to create and offer dynamic and engaging programming content for undergraduate students interested in law and policy. The role involves managing relationships with organizations and industry partners to foster internship opportunities in the legal field, as well as collaborating with campus partners in the Law School and the Career Center.
Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain program files.
- Manage administrative relationships with pre-law student organizations on campus and update contact and leadership lists annually.
- Act as team liaison with the University’s Career Center and compile and organize resources for internship and employment opportunities in the legal field.
- Track and analyze Pre-Law resources and allocate appropriately.
- Maintain the Pre-Law listserv and collaborate with the Legal Studies Program Manager to contribute to a monthly newsletter.
- Manage room reservations, catering, and other logistical support for all Pre-Law programming across campus.
- Collaborate with the Pre-Law Advisor and Assistant Dean for Legal Studies to plan, create, and execute the university’s annual Law Week.
- Maintain a high level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential and sensitive information related to student grades and law school applications.
- Plan and execute programming content about law fields in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including alumni, parents, law school admissions offices, and employers.
- Implement a robust feedback loop for all programming using surveys and assessments to continuously improve workshops and resources based on student needs.
- Coordinate with the Law School Communications and Marketing team to maintain the Pre-Law Advising webpage, handout content, and other marketing/informational materials supporting students in legal careers.
- Design event posters, fliers, signage, and conference materials, and maintain a library of image files for use in these designs.
- Write event descriptions and post event information to Anchor Link and Handshake.
- Maintain accurate statistical reporting of activities through Handshake and internal reporting systems.
- Work with the team to assess student outcomes and the value of programming and services.
- Coordinate complex meetings, conferences, and event logistics, including budgetary activities such as media services, printing services, and catering.
- Ensure events and program activities are executed on or under budget, and provide oversight of program budgets and related expenditures to ensure proper fiscal controls.
- Prepare reimbursement requests and procurement orders for program activities using university COA and POET numbers.
- Maintain documentation of program-related expenditures, track expenditures, and advise the Pre-Law Advisor of remaining balances.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience is required.
- Experience in a higher education setting or law firm recruiting team is preferred.
- Strong written (including editing and proofreading) and verbal communication skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Experience coordinating academic programs is preferred.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
- Ability to manage highly detailed work, ensuring thoroughness and follow-through on tasks to completion.
- Ability to perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects.
- Willingness to take initiative and perform manual labor tasks, including standing for long periods and some light lifting.
Schedule
This position is based in Nashville, TN, and requires in-person work. Some flexibility with hours and responsibilities outside of typical business hours may be required (e.g., student organization meetings in the evening).
