Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • A valid Florida Educator’s Certificate approved by the Florida Division of Early Learning to teach in the VPK program
  • Completion of VPK Instructor Emergent Literacy course requirements prior to start date
  • Completion of 3-Emergent Literacy Courses or Competency 1 of the Reading Endorsement after completing the first three emergent literacy courses, with one emergent literacy course completed every five years
  • Completion of Implementing the Standards in Preschool Classrooms - 3-Year-Old to Kindergarten course prior to state date

Job Duties and Responsibilities

As an active member of the faculty and staff, you will:

  • Work with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on programs and activities for students and the school
  • Participate in a cooperative effort with faculty and staff to plan, implement and evaluate programs of continuing school improvement
  • Manage classroom and supervise proper care of equipment used
  • Participate in personal professional growth activities focused on the acquisition of new and improved skills and knowledge
  • Diagnose and analyze student progress and programs for the purpose of providing appropriate instruction based on the developmental stages of students
  • Utilize a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students
  • Utilize technology and current research in instruction
  • Evaluate students’ progress on a regular basis
  • Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate
  • Show sensitivity to students, parents and the community and promote student self-esteem
  • Maintain professional relationships between school and parents
  • Maintain contact with parents through parent-teacher conferences, telephone, or written communications
  • Encourage parental involvement through school activities, connecting home and school
  • Maintain all records as required, including but not limited to grade books, attendance records and student progress reports
  • Assist in the protection of student and school property
  • Keep up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS
  • Ensure timely and accurate information is maintained as part of job responsibilities

Evaluation

Your performance will be evaluated in accordance with the OCPS Instructional Personnel Evaluation System procedures manual.
