Pre-K Instructional Assistant 2026/2027 School Year - MacArthur Elementary

Under the supervision of the Principal and certified/licensed staff, support learning for all Pre-K students in whole-group, small-group, and one-on-one settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist certified staff with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the certified/licensed professional
  • Assist the classroom teacher in all ways possible to ensure smooth classroom operation
  • Monitor student progress and assist with the management of assessment records and student portfolios
  • Provide emotional support, gentle guidance, and answer student questions
  • Escort or transport students to and from classrooms, offices, cafeteria, or other areas within the building
  • Supervise students in the lunchroom, playground, getting on and off the school bus, and other assigned areas
  • Maintain a positive attitude, friendly interactions, and work cooperatively with students and staff
  • Follow all federal, state, Board, and district policies and procedures
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality concerning students, families, and district personnel
  • Support the physical needs of students based on their chronological age
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the certified/licensed professional and/or Principal
  • Maintain regular and routine attendance at work
  • Model and implement academic/behavioral curriculum as assigned by the certified/licensed professional
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment for students
  • Regularly collaborate with certified/licensed professionals on student concerns or issues
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards
  • Assist with classroom and material management
  • Attend in-service and professional development as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well with children and colleagues
  • Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the District Office (after an employment offer is made)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • 2+ years experience working with school-aged children

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone
  • Physical agility to lift 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen, and printed material with or without vision aids

Pay

$17.00 - $29.94 per hour, based on years of experience in a public K-12 setting in a similar role. 7.5-hour work day.
