About the role

The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals and sets clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Uses various instructional techniques and media, considering the physical constraints of the location and the students' capabilities.
  • Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy, instructional goals, and performance expectations through instruction and actions.
  • Affirms student learning by regularly assessing achievements and providing progress reports as required, communicating with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records and diagnoses learning challenges, seeking assistance from district specialists when necessary.
  • Maintains a safe environment for students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom and develops rules of classroom behavior that are fair and just.
  • Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and provides written evaluations as required.
  • Maintains a continuous program of professional growth that meets district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Takes part in the contractually approved teacher evaluation process and contributes to mutual agreements concerning the results of the evaluation.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among staff.
  • Participates in traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
  • Contributes to decisions made by the district and building regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Qualifications

  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area and appropriate Pre-K educator license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate license; or Master's Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
