About the role

The Springfield Public Schools seeks a dedicated educator to join our team. This position involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, planning a curriculum that meets individual student needs, creating a supportive learning environment, and assessing student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in designated locations and times.
  • Plans a program of study that addresses the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Guides the learning process towards achieving district curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employs various instructional techniques and media, considering the physical constraints of the location and the capabilities of the students.
  • Strives to implement the district's educational philosophy and performance expectations through instruction and actions.
  • Affirms the learning achievements of students regularly and provides progress reports as required. Communicates with parents as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Determines the learning challenges of students and seeks the assistance of district specialists as necessary.
  • Maintains a safe environment by taking all necessary and reasonable precautions.
  • Enforces a code of conduct for the classroom that aligns with established administrative policies and develops classroom rules that are enforced fairly and justly.
  • Supervises assignments for paraprofessionals and provides written evaluations as required.
  • Maintains a continuous program of professional growth that meets district requirements and exceeds personal expectations.
  • Takes an active part in the teacher evaluation process, contributing to mutually agreed-upon results.
  • Attends building and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision-making among the staff.
  • Participates in traditional school-sponsored activities as agreed upon by the building administrator and faculty.
  • Contributes to decisions regarding budget, facilities, curriculum, and personal well-being.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.

Qualifications

  • Highly qualified with required competency in the content area and appropriate Pre-K educator license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate license, or Master’s Degree with appropriate content area license preferred and/or expected within 5 years.
