Pre-Construction Project Mgr
Industrial Power Solutions, a Sundt Company, is seeking an experienced Pre-Construction Project Manager to lead estimating and pre-construction efforts for complex industrial electrical projects.
About the role
This role is responsible for developing accurate project estimates, evaluating construction documents, coordinating with vendors and subcontractors, and supporting a seamless transition from pre-construction to project execution. Working closely with Operations, Estimating, Engineering, and Project Management teams, the Pre-Construction Project Manager plays a critical role in securing new work, identifying project risks, and establishing successful project plans before construction begins.
Responsibilities
- Lead pre-construction and estimating efforts for industrial electrical construction projects.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to ensure complete project scope and identify potential risks.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Develop competitive pricing using estimating software and established company processes.
- Present estimates, budgets, and project recommendations to internal leadership and customers.
- Maintain historical estimating data, cost databases, and project records.
- Support Project Managers during project handoff by providing budget updates, scope reviews, and estimating documentation.
- Assist in developing estimating standards, pre-construction processes, quality initiatives, and safety planning.
- Travel to project sites and customer locations as required to support project development.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical estimating or pre-construction experience.
- Minimum 5 years of industrial electrical field experience or project management experience.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems including power distribution, grounding, motor controls, instrumentation, conduit, and cable tray systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, and contract documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and electrical estimating software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Physical Requirements
- Work in both office and active construction environments.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and navigate construction sites as required.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel to project sites and customer meetings.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while visiting active job sites.
