About the role

The Preconstruction Intern will support the preconstruction departments of estimating, project management, and design by assisting with preparing orders for intake, coordination of sample requests and color matching, and estimating support including work with estimating takeoff software. The intern will also learn CertainTeed Architectural (Norcross) products and complete assignments given by the Estimating Manager and Director of Preconstruction.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and assemble data to assist with the completion of takeoffs for proprietary product.
  • Use Onscreen Takeoff to detail ceiling scope on architectural drawings, translating architectural intent to product-specific solutions.
  • Research materials, specifications, and alternatives.
  • Assist team with updating Bid Tracking Sheet.
  • Assist team with quote revisions in ERP system.
  • Track plan sets and ensure design intent aligns with product specifications.
  • Assist in developing or updating preconstruction schedules.
  • Provide project status reviews on a regular basis to Project Managers and Senior Management.
  • Create, review, and confirm detailed project- and product-specific Bill of Materials.
  • Communicate and follow up with internal customers regarding project specifics and deadlines.
  • Maintain Project Manager and customer expectations.
  • Communicate project requirements and status to cross-functional teams.
  • Manage one's own time to hit deadlines.
  • Continue to develop knowledge base of existing products and assist with new products.
  • Participate in personal development and training as required.
  • Assist with SAP S4 Hana data management.
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (required).
  • Bachelor’s, Technical, or Associate degree with 2+ years of higher education (preferred).
  • AutoCAD (2022 or later) experience in commercial construction or equivalent (2 years preferred).
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, production drawings, perform take-offs, and material optimizations (2 years preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software; working knowledge of databases (3 years required).
  • File management skills: knows how to open, save, find, and copy files both on local workstation and over a network (3 years required).
  • Ability to follow specific AutoCAD/graphic standards as well as Standard Operating Procedures (3 years required).
  • Proficiency in 3D software such as Revit, Solidworks, and Rhino/Grasshopper (2 years preferred).
