About the role

The Pre-Construction Electrical Virtual Design Specialist is a critical part of our pre-construction team that leverages 3D modeling software by applying Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) principles to influence the design and construction of large-scale power generation plants.

Responsibilities

  • Create and coordinate constructible 3D electrical models to ensure projects are built efficiently, on schedule, and to Burns & McDonnell standards.
  • Develop and manage detailed 3D models for Above Grade Raceway (AGR), including conduits, channel trays, and equipment, to define and coordinate space in the design model.
  • Generate clear and accurate drawing deliverables for construction work packs.
  • Maintain and update the bill of materials (BOM) for raceway and cable quantities, identifying opportunities for prefabrication, kitting, and optimized cable pulls.
  • Work with design teams to leverage BIM tools for early cost modeling.
  • Apply hands-on industry knowledge to provide critical constructability input to electrical designers and engineers, ensuring cost-effective and buildable designs.
  • Drive the development of project schedules for the AGR effort and monitor progress to identify opportunities for schedule improvements.
  • Act as a key document reviewer for constructability and value analysis, analyzing historical cost data and reviewing vendor submittals.
  • Identify potential risk factors and review variance reports to clearly identify changes to the project estimate.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with construction counterparts, prefabrication shops, and project engineering teams.
  • Provide clear and concise scopes of work to all subcontractors, vendors, and trade partners.
  • Assist in the transition from the pre-construction team to the project execution team, coordinating meetings and supporting procurement as needed.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years Commercial/Industrial Electrical field and/or Electrical detailing experience required.
  • Proven experience in the electrical industry with a strong background in one or more of the following: electrical construction/installation, electrical design, electrical detailing, or BIM/VDC preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and lay out complex raceway systems in a 3D environment.
  • Experience with overhead raceway planning, conduit sizing, and calculating conduit fill.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineered drawing deliverables, P&IDs, and vendor drawing submittals.
