About the Role
As a full‑time Director of Preconstruction for our Special Projects Group, you'll take full ownership of high‑profile, complex construction projects where accountability, precision, and leadership drive results. Based onsite in Willoughby, OH, this role is designed for leaders who thrive in fast-paced environments and want their expertise to make a visible, lasting impact. Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate all estimating and preconstruction activities for the Special Projects Group
- Lead the entire estimating function—from conceptual budgeting through hard bids
- Guide project teams through the critical early stages of the project lifecycle
- Oversee and mentor Project Estimators
- Manage workloads and bid schedules
- Refine budgets and review subcontractor bids and proposals
- Ensure estimating procedures and standards are consistently followed
- Work closely with Business Development, Operations leaders, Project Managers, and Design partners to position projects for successful execution
- Prepare conceptual budgets and participate in strategy discussions with clients
- Represent MBC professionally with owners, partners, and industry organizations
- In design‑build environments, collaborate with design leadership to align scope, schedule, and budget through contract execution
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction estimating experience, including extensive work on both competitive bid projects and conceptual budgets
- At least five years at a senior estimating or leadership level
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
- Strong technical judgment and financial acumen
- Deep understanding of construction practices, building codes, and regulatory requirements
- Analytical, organized, and decisive—able to manage complexity, mentor teams, improve processes, and communicate confidently with clients and executives
