About the role

The Practice Operations Lead/Office Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the daily operations of a cardiology practice, to include leading a large group teammates and physicians to meet the demands of our patient's needs; monitor and measure necessary KPIs to make sound business decisions; and ensuring growth and development in both our teammates and the business.

Essential functions

Practice Administration:

  • Complete oversight over practice administration, including department management, provider relations, employee management, and communication/collaboration with external third parties.
  • Performance management – monitoring practice performance across operational and financial key performance indicators (KPIs), with clear management process to drive improvement and evolution.
  • Strategic direction – informing and supporting the development of annual budgets and long-term plans for the practice, including growth initiatives, physical plant development, marketing, etc.
  • Coordination with MSO leadership (Heart and Vascular Partners), particularly COO and core functions like Finance, HR, and Revenue Cycle, to achieve scale and efficiency in practice operations.
  • Ensure responsible use of practice resources, including close management of expenses in-line with budgeted expectations.

Growth:

  • Achieve growth objectives set out by physician practice leads in coordination with MSO leadership.
  • Inform growth objectives, develop execution plans, and oversee/participate directly in achievement of objectives. Growth objectives will include leveraging: marketing and business development (direct to patients and to referring providers), physician recruitment and onboarding, and revenue generation opportunities through payer engagement (contracting and network opportunities).
  • Participate in the execution of ancillary development – establishing new service lines, driving conversion as clinically-appropriate, and measuring performance and staffing.

People:

  • Serve as the leader of the practice, providing support, assistance, and direction to all team members.
  • Develop and manage team of functional / departmental leaders, capable of delivering on day-to-day execution within the clinic.
  • Closely manage physician relationships, ensuring alignment with the Heart & Vascular Partners.
  • Coordinate closely with MSO team, drawing on scalable resources while engaging in thought partnership around practice priorities and execution.

Skills

  • Communication and presence, especially with physicians, with ability to easily develop relationships.
  • Business acumen and comfort with complex, and often ambiguous, transactions and strategies.
  • Detail-orientation, ability to multi-task across several simultaneous projects.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Understanding and commitment to the concept of confidentiality and discretion.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years in healthcare leadership positions, preferably in the private practice setting and managing large, multi-functional teams.
  • Understanding of EMR/EHR, and ability to extract/interpret data from it.

Advanced degrees a "plus": Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration.

Work environment

This position will report to the office Monday-Friday from 6:30 am – 5:00 PM.

Physical requirements

This position requires full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds.
