About the role
Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. SVCC serves the largest community college region in the state, covering ten counties and one city.
Responsibilities
Become familiar with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the PN program.
Become familiar with the Nursing Student Handbook, the adjunct faculty handbook, and general college policies.
Attend student and faculty orientations to the clinical area according to agency policy.
Provide continuous on-site supervision and guidance using components of the nursing process.
Select student patient assignments that align with fundamental practical nursing learning outcomes.
Review clinical objectives with students, conduct pre- and post-clinical conferences, and serve as a professional role model.
Review, correct, and provide meaningful feedback on written clinical assignments, returning them to students within one week (prior to their next clinical shift).
Formally evaluate and record student clinical progress at midterm and at the conclusion of each rotation.
Discuss documented strengths and areas needing improvement directly with the student using designated evaluation forms.
Maintain a safe, cooperative learning environment with clinical agency staff.
Promptly report student absences, behavioral issues, or clinical performance concerns to the full-time PN faculty or Program Coordinator.
Attend selected nursing faculty and/or curricular meetings as designated by the Program Coordinator or Director.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate degree with enrollment in a BSN program.
At least two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, preferably in a medical-surgical, gerontological, or long-term care setting relevant to practical nursing instruction.
Must hold a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or hold a valid multi-state privilege.
Maintain professional clinical competence through ongoing nursing practice, continuing education, or academic coursework.

Schedule
Traditional Program schedule; weekday clinical rotations (typically Monday through Friday, daytime hours). No more than 29 clinical hours per week. Multiple Work Locations: Alberta or South Boston.
