About the role

The Millwright will install and/or maintain machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, drawings, and written instructions in industrial establishments. Site-specific training/orientation is required before arrival to the job.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures; dismantles machines; moves machinery and equipment.
  • Assembles and installs machines, then tests them to ensure they are working correctly.
  • Works in full compliance with approved safety regulations.
  • Manages the layout and placement of equipment and machinery in factory settings to ensure minimum downtime.
  • Identifies and repairs problematic parts of a machine by running tests, making temporary repairs, or installing new parts.
  • Dismantles older machines and replaces them with new ones.
  • Oversees preventive maintenance by identifying and correcting potential issues, removing worn-out pieces, and lubricating mechanical parts.
  • Uses machinery or equipment, such as forklifts, to move mechanical parts.
  • Assembles and installs equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, pumps, compressors, extruders, turbines, and blowers.
  • Aligns machines and equipment using reverse alignment method.
  • Assembles machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures.
  • May operate engine lathe to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
  • May repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • May be involved in the grouting activity for equipment base plates.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs all work in a safe and efficient manner and keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications

Preferred: 4 years of work experience as an industrial millwright or successful completion of a curriculum closely related to Millwright work from a vocational institution with 2 years’ experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to complete hiring paperwork electronically through DocuSign.
  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess enough strength and stamina to perform the technical duties and essential functions as identified above.
  • Must be able to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas.
  • Must have full range of motion consistent with age.
  • Must be able to climb and maintain balance on ladders.
  • Must be able to adequately hear and respond to voice commands and alerts from other employees, alarms, and other job-related noises.
  • Visual acuity, depth perception, and color discrimination consistent with that required to work at heights and on uneven surfaces.
  • Safety/steel toe shoes are required.
