About the Role

As a Powertrain Performance Test Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for calibrating vehicle parameters that directly impact the acceleration characteristics, fuel economy, and powertrain behavior of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles for the North American market. You will support lead engineers in defining and achieving drivability and performance targets through in-vehicle testing, calibration, voice-of-customer research, and subjective evaluation. Propulsion systems include internal combustion, hybrid-electric, and battery-electric across various vehicle segments.

Responsibilities

  • Instrument test vehicles with sensors (accelerometers, thermocouples, microphones, etc.) to collect data for characterizing and monitoring vehicle performance and drivability.
  • Identify drivability strengths and weaknesses and perform root cause analysis using measured data to determine powertrain control strategies.
  • Plan and participate in test trips, evaluating vehicles in a wide range of on-road driving conditions and environments.
  • Work with lead engineers to validate drivability strategies for alignment with U.S. market expectations.
  • Perform powertrain performance testing and assist in collecting and analyzing vehicle data.
  • Participate in drive events with engineers and evaluators, providing powertrain evaluation perspectives and context for feedback.
  • Create and present clear, concise project status and technical reports.
  • Work in culturally diverse teams and harsh climate conditions (Winter: -40°F, Summer: +120°F, altitude up to 14,000 ft).
  • Travel up to 35%, domestically and internationally, to support product development and testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant engineering experience; automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Engineering internship experience.
  • Good understanding of vehicle powertrain systems and vehicle dynamics.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and data analysis software, including MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of simple modeling of physical systems and analysis.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and problem-solving methods.
  • Strong written communication and presentation skills.
  • Flexibility in handling multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.

Benefits

  • Zero-dollar employee premiums on medical, dental, and vision for you and your family.
