About the Role
As a Powertrain Performance Test Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for calibrating vehicle parameters that directly impact the acceleration characteristics, fuel economy, and powertrain behavior of Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles for the North American market. You will support lead engineers in defining and achieving drivability and performance targets through in-vehicle testing, calibration, voice-of-customer research, and subjective evaluation. Propulsion systems include internal combustion, hybrid-electric, and battery-electric across various vehicle segments.
Responsibilities
- Instrument test vehicles with sensors (accelerometers, thermocouples, microphones, etc.) to collect data for characterizing and monitoring vehicle performance and drivability.
- Identify drivability strengths and weaknesses and perform root cause analysis using measured data to determine powertrain control strategies.
- Plan and participate in test trips, evaluating vehicles in a wide range of on-road driving conditions and environments.
- Work with lead engineers to validate drivability strategies for alignment with U.S. market expectations.
- Perform powertrain performance testing and assist in collecting and analyzing vehicle data.
- Participate in drive events with engineers and evaluators, providing powertrain evaluation perspectives and context for feedback.
- Create and present clear, concise project status and technical reports.
- Work in culturally diverse teams and harsh climate conditions (Winter: -40°F, Summer: +120°F, altitude up to 14,000 ft).
- Travel up to 35%, domestically and internationally, to support product development and testing.
