Position Summary
Pro-Tek Field Services is seeking a motivated Powerline Apprentice to support industrial electrical and power distribution projects within the oil & gas, energy, and industrial sectors. This position works under the direction of experienced Powerline Operators and Foremen, assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial overhead and underground power systems while developing the skills necessary for advancement within the trade.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial overhead and underground power distribution systems.
- Support the installation of utility poles, conductors, transformers, switches, anchors, and related powerline equipment.
- Absorb, unload, and organize materials, tools, and equipment for daily work activities.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely under supervision.
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Read and follow work orders, drawings, and supervisor instructions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Comply with all OSHA regulations, customer safety requirements, and company policies.
- Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and required training.
- Work collaboratively with crews to complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Travel to industrial job sites and work overtime as required.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Previous industrial, electrical, utility, or oil & gas experience is preferred but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn the powerline trade.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work in physically demanding industrial environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights and around energized electrical equipment under supervision.
- Ability to travel and work extended hours, weekends, or call-outs when project demands require.
Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
- A valid Driver's License (CDL or CDL Permit preferred).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30H2S Clear.
- PPEC Safeland Basic Orientation.
- First Aid/CPR.
- Experience working in industrial facilities, substations, or oil & gas environments is a plus.
