About the role
MW Talent is partnering with a global materials and technology organization to identify a Power Transformer Application Engineer. This role is ideal for a transformer engineer who wants to move beyond a traditional design position and work directly with transformer manufacturers, engineering teams, and customers. You will support transformer applications, influence technical design decisions, solve customer challenges, and help identify new opportunities across North America.
What You Will Do
- Work directly with transformer design engineers and manufacturers
- Support the selection and application of transformer insulation systems
- Support dry-type, VPI, and liquid-filled transformer applications
- Review customer specifications, drawings, testing data, and technical requirements
- Participate in design reviews, product qualification, and testing discussions
- Provide technical guidance related to transformer design, insulation, performance, and manufacturing
- Help customers resolve technical challenges and improve product performance
- Support root-cause investigations and recommend practical solutions
- Partner with sales, engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams
- Build relationships with transformer manufacturers, utilities, consultants, and industry partners
- Identify market trends and new application opportunities
- Participate in industry events, standards groups, and technical forums
- Travel across the United States, Canada, and Mexico to support customers
Who We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field
- At least three years of experience in transformer design, application engineering, product engineering, manufacturing, testing, or technical support
- Strong understanding of how transformers are designed, built, tested, and operated
- Experience with power transformers, distribution transformers, dry-type transformers, or liquid-filled transformers
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and testing data
- Ability to work directly with engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel approximately 25%

- Transformer windings, cores, insulation, bushings, tap changers, cooling systems, and active parts
- Electrical insulation systems and materials
- Paper, pressboard, aramid paper, resin systems, or related insulation materials
- Transformer dielectric, thermal, mechanical, or electrical performance
- IEEE C57, IEC 60076, UL, or related standards
- Technical proposals, customer design reviews, testing, and failure analysis
- Existing relationships with transformer manufacturers, utilities, or engineering firms
