Power Systems Rental Technician

Schedule: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday–Friday, with overtime and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Power Systems Division rental fleet at the Altorfer shop, including generators and other equipment (compressors, chillers, A/C units, heaters, cables, distribution panels, etc.).
  • Oversee rental fleet unit check-in and check-out, ensuring unit readiness through functional runs, appearance checks, and basic troubleshooting/preventive maintenance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by communicating and interacting with all customers to meet their expectations.
  • Deliver and assist with loading and unloading project components at customer job sites.
  • Assist with setup, basic troubleshooting, and repairs as needed.
  • Coordinate with external service and parts providers (non-CAT specific) to order parts or services for repairing returned fleet units.
  • Complete rental documentation for customer unit status and maintain accurate Power Systems records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal technical training program or a minimum of three years’ relevant experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a field related to electronic diesel engines, fuel systems, generators, air compressors, heaters, or air conditioning is preferred.
  • Computer literacy required; familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and various CAT programs.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules and wear proper safety equipment.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with a team-oriented mindset and willingness to adapt to change.
  • Ability to respond to callouts, work overtime, and weekends when needed.
  • Excellent written, email, and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have your own basic tools.
  • CDL preferred but not required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends, and holidays to support business and customer needs.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no more than 2 minor violations in the past 3 years and no major violations in the past 5 years; Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate).

Work Environment

  • Position works in a field/shop environment and at customer job sites.
  • Continuous walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Required to wear appropriate safety equipment (e.g., safety glasses or side shields, hearing protection) as needed.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Pay

Pay rate: $30.92 – $44.08 per hour USD.
