Power Systems Field Technician
About the role
Our construction equipment group is seeking a full-time Power Systems Field Technician to report out of our South Elgin, IL branch. This is a union position and will be part of Local 150.
Responsibilities
- Apply technical experience to effectively inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair Power Systems equipment
- Complete service reports, PM checklists, and timecards in alignment with departmental standards
- Leverage your previous experience to perform service tasks efficiently and accurately
- Exhibit a strong dedication to customer satisfaction by clearly and consistently communicating job updates to both clients and internal team members
- Perform comprehensive visual inspections and testing on engine and generator sets, identifying and documenting any deficiencies during preventive maintenance
- Upkeep of the service truck
- Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Consistent, regular, and reliable attendance including being ready for work at the designated start time
- Availability for after-hours calls, as well as overnight work
Qualifications
- Previous experience with CAT, Cummins, and Volvo Engines is required
- Minimum of three years of previous experience in electric power generator maintenance and repair
- Solid understanding of the following systems: engine, power train, hydraulics and electrical
- Possess own tools
- A positive attitude and high energy
- Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Intermediate ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, perform unit conversions, and perform basic calculations using American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
- Intermediate reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record to be considered for this position

- Frequently will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, under extreme heat or cold
- Occasionally will work in wet or humid conditions (non-weather)
- Risk of electrical shock, vibration

Pay
The expected hourly pay for this role ranges between $41.57-$63.95 based on candidate experience.
