About the role

The key role of this position is to serve as a subject matter expert to the team to develop complex hybrid control systems. There will be no direct reports but will help influence engineers in multiple Caterpillar locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction for team members to develop and execute complex hybrid control systems including generators, inverters, and battery systems.
  • Ensure collaboration between departments and divisions working together to ensure a cohesive system is achieved on time.
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to define and meet product requirements.
  • Provide guidance on long term strategy and direction for controls, inverters and battery energy storage systems.
  • Provide guidance and support for regulatory compliance and certification.
  • Research new methods for system and site control.
  • Develop functional requirements, design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of products and components that satisfy customer needs and advance safety, quality, velocity and cost.
  • Guide the evolution of technical design, technical project planning, detail design, and development testing.
  • Monitor, explore, and test new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • Degree Requirement: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Technology, or Computer Science curriculum.
  • Technical Requirement: Extensive engineering experience (including product application, testing, and process design experience in electric power generation, electrical & electronic control systems, inverter technologies or electrical power distribution systems).
  • Skills: Familiarity with Matlab, Simulink, Codesys.

  • Product Development Life Cycle: Knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables of product development life cycle in manufacturing organizations; ability to bring new or enhanced products to the marketplace.
  • Product Testing: Knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques.
