Power System Engineer

Our client is an American organization operating Texas's electrical grid, the Texas Interconnection, supplying power to over 25 million Texas customers and representing 90 percent of the state's electric load. The client is the first independent system operator (ISO) in the United States and one of nine ISOs in North America, coordinating with the Texas Reliability Entity (TRE) to improve bulk power grid reliability.
About the role
Provides engineering analysis and technical support to ensure the reliable interconnection of new generators to the client system in compliance with NERC Standards, client Protocols, Planning Guide, and Market Guides. Implements system modeling, develops tools and procedures for system studies, analyzes simulated or actual operating results, and develops solutions to current or future system issues.
Responsibilities
- Performs powerflow studies to analyze the feasibility of proposed generation interconnections.
- Reviews interconnection applications for compliance with client Planning Guides, Protocols, and technical requirements prior to approval.
- Analyzes results of simulated power system studies and compares them to actual operating data to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Identifies process improvements for interconnection study workflows, data management, and stakeholder communication.
- Communicates requirements and results to internal and external stakeholders in the interconnection process.
- Tracks project milestones from study request through commercial operation, maintaining alignment with interconnection queue procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- For entry level: Less than one year of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry (in excess of degree requirements).
- For level 2: 2 years of progressively responsible experience in the electric utility industry.
Skills
- Experience running power system load flow studies in PSSE.
- Experience running transfer analysis systems studies.
- Ability to clearly communicate requirements and technical information.
- Ability to write technical reports of in-depth analysis.
- Experience with Python, VBA, or another programming language.
- Experience creating queries in Access, Oracle, or SQL.
- Experience using TARA.
Pay
$45.00 to $55.00 per hour.
Schedule
12-month temporary assignment, remote work.
