Power Solutions Manager
Duties
Manage and implement comprehensive power capacity acquisition projects and processes to meet the company’s short-term and long-term utility development needs.
Establish and maintain strong partnerships with utility providers to secure power capacity for future data center developments and optimize power cost structures.
Negotiate and manage power capacity and supply agreements, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Evaluate and implement distributed energy resource (DER) power solutions, including low- carbon, renewable energy, battery storage systems, and fuel cells, to ensure sustainable and reliable energy supply.
Analyze energy markets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and adjust acquisition and procurement strategies as needed.
Identify and implement energy efficiency measures related to power design, consumption, and procurement to drive cost-savings.
Develop and execute strategies to mitigate risks from energy price volatility, capacity shortages, and regulatory changes.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Operations, Engineering, and Construction, to align power capacity acquisition and energy projects with business objectives.
Oversee reporting on power capacity and energy procurement activities, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment that consists of at least two onsite days per week
- Flexibility to travel up to 20%, with the potential for increased travel, spontaneous travel, or in-office presence as business needs evolve
- Deep understanding of energy markets, procurement strategies, regulatory environments, and utility provider relations, particularly for data center energy needs
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, perform cost-benefit analyses, and identify market trends, risks, and opportunities
- Prowess in negotiating effectively with utility providers, energy suppliers, and other stakeholders
- In-depth knowledge of renewable energy sources, distributed energy solutions, and sustainability frameworks, including battery energy storage systems and fuel cells
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex information clearly and persuasively
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to cross-functionally collaborate, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
- Strategic thinker with expertise in developing both short-term and long-term energy strategies that align with company goals and sustainability objectives while mitigating risk
- Proficiency in energy management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools
- Experience/Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field; Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CEM, CPM) are preferred; 5+ years of experience in energy procurement and project management, including at least 3 years working with utility developers or data centers assessing alternative power solutions; Experience in power utilities, energy markets, data centers, or telecommunications industry is strongly preferred
