About the Role

Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a summer program designed to prevent learning loss and provide academic support for K-8 students from San Francisco and San Mateo County. The program strengthens students' academic foundation as well as their social-emotional and critical thinking skills. Students participate in daily math and literacy instruction with credentialed teachers for three hours a day, four days a week.

Program Dates:

• San Francisco: June 8 to July 24, 2026
• San Mateo: June 16 to July 31, 2026

Training will begin in Spring 2026 and will include sessions tailored to the program and individual training needs.

Responsibilities

• Instructional Planning & Delivery:
  • Design and deliver grade-appropriate academic content.
  • Address scholars' individual academic and instructional needs.
  • Support assistant teachers in planning and directing project-based learning activities.
• Classroom Management & Student Engagement:
  • Foster a positive, organized, and engaging learning environment.
  • Set and uphold high academic and behavioral expectations for scholars.
  • Utilize positive discipline strategies to encourage constructive choices and serve as a role model.
• Collaboration & Mentorship:
  • Collaborate with assistant teachers to ensure scholars achieve academic objectives.
  • Mentor teacher assistants to support their professional growth.
• Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate scholar records and adhere to program and district guidelines.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

PSA Teachers work in dynamic classroom settings that may include both indoor and outdoor spaces. The role requires moderate physical activity, such as standing, walking, and interacting with students. You must adapt to a fast-paced environment, maintain a positive and engaging demeanor, and meet the physical demands of teaching and supervision, including handling classroom materials and technology.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete a background screening, including criminal and employment verification. Some positions may also require a credit check.

Pay

The hourly rate for the PSA Teacher position ranges from $47.00 to $70.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with industry salary benchmarks.
