About the Role

Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient psychiatric and partial hospitalization treatment for children and adolescents. We strive to provide compassionate care to every patient we serve.

As a Clinical Educator, you will participate in ongoing educational assessments of patients, provide instruction while maintaining an orderly and disciplined classroom structure, and develop special interventions for patients unable to function within the classroom setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to patients while maintaining an orderly and disciplined classroom environment.
  • Develop special interventions for patients unable to function within the classroom setting.
  • Assist in curriculum development.
  • Participate in patient treatment planning and staffings when necessary.
  • Understand basic growth and development milestones with appropriate interventions specific to the age and population served.
  • Complete patient lesson plans and maintain all required records.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of appropriate instructional materials relative to patients' age and functioning level.
  • Participate in case management activities as required.
  • Ensure the maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • One year of teaching experience with emotionally disturbed/behaviorally disordered (ED/BD) children and/or adolescents preferred.
  • Valid PEL (Professional Educator License) and Illinois teaching certificate required; certification in Special Education preferred.

Skills

  • Effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population.
  • Individual and group management skills.
  • Ability to build therapeutic relationships and processes.
  • Knowledge of age-specific growth and development.
  • Limit setting and crisis/behavior management.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior.
  • Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids, and other hazardous waste.
  • General hospital environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Physical agility to manage patients.
  • Push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping.
