Responsibilities
- Install and maintain structural or mechanical equipment at the plant including fired and unfired pressure vessels, turbines, pumps, pulverizers, and piping systems.
- Daily interfacing with basic thermodynamics, hydraulics, and blueprint reading.
- Tasks may include but are not limited to connecting compression fittings, removal and replacement of thermocouple assemblies, and minor operation of equipment.
- Perform critical alignments on all rotating equipment using roto-align equipment, including pumps, fans, and gearboxes.
- Weld low-pressure, carbon steel pipe up to 6" in diameter.
- Install bearings, mechanical seals, packing, and rebuild pumps, valves, and gearboxes.
- Utilize mathematical calculations for rigging purposes when lifting equipment.
- Understand coal handling equipment and maintain coal belts and associated equipment.
- Perform machine shop work using a lathe, drill press, boring bar, etc.
- Maintain a positive team attitude when working with other team members.
- Follow industry or specific guidelines, particularly as they relate to safety, health, and environmental practices.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED, or proof of equivalent.
- Minimum 3-4 years Journeyman level Mechanical experience (preferred experience in a power or chemical plant), OR completion of a college-level associate degree in a related field of study with field experience, OR completion of an apprenticeship or other equivalent training that resulted in certification at the Journeyman level.
- Must pass a Written and Practical Mechanical exam.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and Drug and Alcohol test.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.

- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Preferences
- Experience as a Journeyman Plant Mechanic.
- Certified Welder.
